The Help: movie

HI Marie,
How are you? I have to say, I am shocked. I am so sad about how things are done here in Mississippi. I am writing this letter to inform you that white people are so awful, and I feel so bad to be part of this “community”.
These women don’t get the minimum wage and do not have social assurance! Can you imagine that? It is very disappointing how they treat black people, like they are objects. Black women look after their kids, they feed them, wash them, and at the end, white people never say thank you. They take it all this hard work for granted, they think black women were born to do this job so they could not complain at all.
Are you aware that black people have separated toilets from the whites? Do you know if black women cook for white people, they use another spoon? Like if they were ill! This is something that a woman told me while I was asking her about her.
“Separated, but equal” my “friend” said. Do I really belong to this society? I feel sick. This is not even near to equality! I am not happy at all. One of the stories I heard really make me so sad. This black woman I talk to, told me that she didn’t receive a help from her “boss” (the white person she is working for) when she asked for a loan to take her kids to university. Her boss answered that asking for loans was wrong, that people should have what they have and never ask for more. I am so downed with this situation. Their thinking is a result of always having everything in life, and never have to fight for anything. White people would never realized the privileges they enjoy and black people don’t.
We need to try to change this for once and for all. “Do not hit the children, they like to do it” White people enjoy feeling powerful, despite anyone else. Black women work their whole life for white people, and sometimes they fired them unfairly! They do not even care for their kids, can you possibly understand that? These kids spend their childhood knowing better their “nana” than their own mother. This is getting worse everyday! I feel so powerless, I am unable to help this women.
I really miss you, hope I see you soon!
Skeeter.
